Today there is more and more talk of enlightenment….
Enlightenment is not something to attain; it is not a thing and it is not an experience. Anyone administering drugs as part of some process or desiring this to become something is thus misguided.
We also have notions of what being like a Buddha looks, or should be like… that are totally unnatural -- or are superficial... usually full of superlatives.… We assume it looks a certain way.
And then we get in trouble being attracted to unscrupulous people, con artists, magicians … people that can make things appear and disappear, desiring the unnatural when in reality it is the most natural. Or again, those that provide an experience, which can't be "it."
Beware of the costume, whether it a business suit or people with dreads dressed in all white or robes....
Think about it: no one wins every tennis game or hits every ball -- even Olympians. It is normal to forget your wallet or lose your phone, misplace your keys and forget names. It doesn’t mean we haven’t kicked a smoking habit or don’t enjoy chocolate… it has nothing to do with that. The Greek and Roman gods even had flaws….
Enlightenment is not the pinnacle of human evolution, and not a final condition. (Perhaps it should be called Enlighten-being not enlightenment, or traveling lighter.) Enlightenment is not a goal -- an end state, and it can be problematic to view it as such. It is the “ground not the goal.” Perfection is a silly idea, concept.
Life Itself is the most natural, the most normal, the most ordinary ... and the most miraculous.
